PACE & PRISM (P&P)
Well, it’s in. Last Tuesday, I submitted our annual P&P application to Catholic Mutual, the insurance company that insures all Catholic entities in the Archdiocese.
We entered the P&P program a year ago, and it led to our receiving a $4,400 rebate on our annual insurance costs. Not a bad return for following good practices in personnel matters and facilities maintenance.
This year’s application was far easier than last year, for some parts of the program are required only every two or three years.
Some parts, however, are required every year. A prime example is basic cyber awareness training in how to recognize phishing, ransomware and other scams. We know there are people everywhere who are trying to cause problems or make money off of poorly defended computer systems.
CYBER SECURITY CONFERENCE
With all that in mind, I joined colleagues at an Archdiocesan-sponsored cyber security conference in late July. It was actually a pretty good conference. The outside cyber security experts who led the training had clearly worked hard to translate their advice into everyday English.
The good news is that we’ve already begun to use some of the cyber security procedures now required by the Archdiocese and Catholic Mutual. The less good news is that we have more work to do.
It will be worth it, however, as the purpose is to keep our data safe and our systems operational.
FACILITIES
On a more concrete level, the school roof has been replaced. Englund Roofing will soon move on to repairing the two low roofs on the Parish Center.
In addition to curing leaks, this roof work enables us to proceed with our plans to install solar panels. In addition to mitigating climate change, a solar installation will lower our electric bills. All good!
Thank you for your support, and have a great week!
