WHERE WE WORSHIP: A HOUSE OF WELCOME
“Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels.” (Hebrews 13:1-2)
Hospitality. It’s one of the many things I’ve appreciated about St. Matt’s since I began work here in 2021. I notice it when greeters by our entry doors offer a smile, hymnal and list of music for each Mass. Hospitality is also apparent in the way people socialize before and after Mass, and at Coffee Sunday, or when office staff and volunteers help visitors.
I could go on, but I expect you get the idea. Let us welcome everyone. Some might be angels.
FACILITIES NOTES
I wrote last week about major facilities needs we’ve identified for 2023: a roof on the school’s flat (north) section, and the electric panels in the church basement. When all bids come in, we might well be in the neighborhood of $500,000 for those projects. That amount calls for prayer and planning.
Part of our planning is to work with Catholic Finance Corporation (CFC) to finance the projects. That allows us to spread costs over 10-20 years, as we did with the elevator and boilers a few years ago. It’s important to take care of our buildings, so that we can continue to take care of people.
In addition to your prayers, please consider supporting our St. Matt’s Capital Needs Fund. You might have noticed a new monthly envelope to that effect. Feel free to use that. Alternatively, let me know if you’d like to set up a regular Electronic Funds Transaction (EFT) dedicated to our capital needs.
WHAT IS THIS EFT OF WHICH YOU SPEAK?
Several dozen parish supporters already contribute with regular (monthly or weekly) transfers from their bank to our bank. When I set up an EFT, I note which donations go to our general fund, to our Capital Needs Fund, or flow through to support Community of Saints School. It’s entirely up to donors to choose funds, amounts and timing. Email me or call the office for more information.
Thank you for your support, and have a great week!
