WELCOMING THE STRANGER
I recently invited a stranger to Mass. That was after she stopped by the Parish Center early one morning, and we talked a bit. First, I mentioned Loaves & Fishes suppers, Mondays through Fridays from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Then I gave her the address for Neighborhood House. These are among our most common ways of helping people, either on site or by referral.
What else do we do here at St. Matt’s? We gather on Saturdays and Sundays to worship God. I know that if the young woman came to Mass here, she’d be welcomed by good people. She’d hear God’s Word, a good homily, and then have the opportunity to receive Communion.
Who else might I invite to worship with us? Who might you invite? Strangers? Friends?
PACE & PRISM
I’ve been working on our insurance rebate programs, known as PACE (Protecting All Church Employees) and PRISM (Property Responsibility In Service to Mission)—or P&P, for short.
P&P says that if we follow good practices for our personnel and take care of our buildings, we can receive up to 20% off of our annual insurance costs. To qualify, we need to document things for Catholic Mutual, our insurance company.
Last year was the first year we participated in the P&P program, and we received more than $4,000 back as an insurance rebate.
The annual deadline is August 1, which means we have some paperwork to complete in the next few days. Fortunately, year two of P&P is easier than the first year.
FACILITIES UPDATE
As it turned out, school building roof replacement work began this past week. Englund Roofing wanted to get our project done now, before classes resume at Quantum STEAM Academy. While the Englund crew and equipment are here, there’s no parking on the school side of the parking lot. They said it would take two to three weeks for the full project.
Thank you for your support, and have a great week!
