Here is the final report for this year’s “State Fair strawberry cleaning.”
There were 69 different folks who worked on one or more of the days of the cleaning. It was wonderful to see so many people. It was wonderful to see “seniors” who can do this work; it was very wonderful to see some “youth” who came to help on most of the days!
There were 362 “appearances” by those 69 people over the course of 11 days. On Tuesday, August 27 there was no cleaning because of the amount of rain on Monday. The concessionaire had enough berries for the next day.
We had an agreement to clean for these fees: $.50 per pound cleaned; $30 per day for putting the bins through the dishwasher; $20 per day for breaking down the cardboard flats [we did that for the last few days of the fair].
The concessionaire paid us in full and more; we received a check for $4700.
