Volunteer Opportunities and Parish Needs, 8-25-2019

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”  Isaiah 6:8

We need volunteers to continue the work of serving our parish and community. Currently we have 4 continuing opportunities.

FAITH FORMATION TEACHERS NEEDED

The St. Matthew Faith Formation program for public school students in grades 1 – 10 will resume in mid-September and we have openings for teachers and helpers. Volunteers should enjoy helping children know, love, and serve Jesus and their neighbor, as they learn more about their Catholic faith. Classes are held on Wed. evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 pm, between Sept and April. Curriculum and supplies are provided. If a weekly commitment is too much, please consider being a substitute or helping with specific events. To find out more, call or email Janelle Rohr, Faith Formation coordinator, 651-457-3522 or .

SUBSTITUTE PARISH CENTER RECEPTIONISTS

Need volunteers to be on call and fill in when needed. Duties include answering phone and  greeting visitors. We have four 4-hour shifts and four 3-hr shifts. Hours are:  Mon – Thurs   9am to 1pm & 1pm to 4pm

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD, TEACHERS AND HELPERS NEEDED

From mid-September until mid-May, children ages 3 to 6 may participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10:15 AM Mass; the children are in the chapel about 20 minutes for age-appropriate instruction and crafts. We need more teachers and teen helpers to consistently offer the program every weekend. Curriculum and supplies are provided. For more information about what is involved, email Faith Formation director Janelle Rohr at or call her at 651-457-3522.

STRAWBERRY CLEANING

Strawberry cleaning has begun!! we are now cleaning strawberries for the State Fair! We begin every morning at 8am in the Social Hall and our last day will be Sunday Sept 1st. As we experienced during the June Strawberry cleaning,  with many volunteers we can finish the job quickly. The proceeds from this opportunity will go to the Roof Fund. One more way for parishioners to help pay for the new roof!

I invite anyone who could help with these volunteer opportunities to contact me through the parish office or email me at

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all parishioners who have donated items for the Fall Festival! We still need MANY  MORE DONATIONS! Please look at the Fall Festival insert in this bulletin. If you can donate items for the booths listed, we ask that you bring them to the Parish Center Mon – Thurs 9am – 4pm or place donations by the Scrip table at the weekend masses. Your generosity will help to make our Fall Festival a success!
