Justice & Outreach

“Whoever has a heart full of love always has something to give.” —Pope John XXIII

In pursuit of social justice, we partner with a number of organizations.

Loaves & Fishes

Meeting the basic needs of people for food, dignity and respect since 1982.

Free, hot meals are available to anyone every Monday – Friday, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Social Hall. Our site is consistently one of the busiest, averaging 300 meals-served per day.

Meals are cooked and served on site by teams of volunteers. Under the guidance of a site coordinator, volunteers help prepare meals, serve guests, and clean up during and after meal service.

Casa Guadalupana

Proudly serving migrant families in need since 1999.

In 2005, Casa moved into the old rectory at St. Matthew’s, which volunteers transformed into a comfortable and welcoming space. Casa can host up to 16 adults and children at any one time, and often operates at capacity.

St. Mary’s Health Clinic

Because all people deserve quality healthcare.

St. Mary’s Health Clinic (SMHC) provides necessary and accessible health services to the medically underserved and persons experiencing economic hardship. Services include medical care, outreach, and education to families and individuals with limited resources. Care is provided by volunteer physicians, nurses and support personnel and managed by an employed staff and nursing supervisor. There is no charge to patients for clinic services and Spanish interpreters and bilingual staff are available. Basic dental exams and screenings are held monthly by a mobile dental unit.

The clinics are a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Paul, and were started in 1992 with the Church of St. Matthew being an initial site for clinic operations.

St. Matthew’s clinic services are available on Wednesdays from 9 AM -4 PM and are provided by appointment only.  To learn more about SMHC, please call 651-287-7777 for eligibility screening and appointments.

Gifted and Belonging

Gifted and Belong (GAB) provides Catholic fellowship for young adults with disabilities, whether the disability is seen or unseen.

GAB is founded on the belief that all are gifted, and all belong. Everyone is welcome at GAB to share a brief time of prayer and reflection followed by games and social activities.

GAB meets every fourth Sunday at Saint Matthew’s in the Parish Center/Social Hall. For more information, please email giftedandbelonging@gmail.com.
